General Information About the Project

The Home Care project of the Kharkiv Regional Organization of the Ukrainian Red Cross is aimed at supporting people who, due to age, health conditions, or life circumstances, are unable to fully meet their basic needs independently.

Within the project, social assistants provide support to older adults and other vulnerable groups directly at their place of residence. This assistance allows people to remain in their own homes, maintain dignity, support their physical and emotional well-being, and feel care and attention.

The main goal of the project is to help people live more safely, comfortably, and as independently as possible at home, even in challenging life situations. The activities are carried out in accordance with the humanitarian principles of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement.

Who the Assistance Is For

The Home Care project is designed for residents of the Kharkiv region who belong to vulnerable groups and require support in their daily lives.

Priority is given to older adults, people living alone, people with disabilities, and individuals with chronic illnesses. Assistance is also available to those who have partially or completely lost the ability to care for themselves.

Where needed and subject to eligibility criteria, older internally displaced persons may also be included in the project.

Project Goal

The objective of the project is to provide regular and accessible home-based support to people who need assistance in their daily lives. The program aims to improve the quality of life of older adults and other vulnerable groups, support their physical and emotional well-being, and enable them to continue living in their own homes in safe and dignified conditions.

Project Objectives

The main objective of the project is to reduce social isolation among people living alone and create a sense of support and care. Social assistants help beneficiaries with daily tasks, support their physical and emotional well-being, ensure regular communication, and inform beneficiaries and their families about available social services and opportunities for additional assistance.

Key Types of Assistance

Within the Home Care project, Red Cross social assistants provide comprehensive support in daily life. The assistance is aimed at enabling people with limited ability for self-care to live safely and with dignity in their own homes.

Social assistants help beneficiaries with basic household tasks and maintaining proper living conditions. Support may include:

  • assistance with household management;

  • cleaning of living premises;

  • assistance with meal preparation;

  • purchasing and delivery of groceries;

  • purchasing medications and essential items;

  • support with personal hygiene.

If needed, social assistants may also accompany beneficiaries to medical or social institutions, assist in arranging doctor visits, and help ensure timely medication intake (without interfering with medical prescriptions).

An important part of the support is also emotional care and communication. Social assistants regularly visit beneficiaries, provide companionship, support their emotional well-being, and help reduce feelings of loneliness and social isolation.

Service Delivery Formats

Assistance is provided individually, directly at the beneficiary’s place of residence. Red Cross social assistants visit beneficiaries regularly according to an agreed schedule.

The scope of support is determined individually after assessing the person’s needs to ensure the most effective assistance.

How to Receive Assistance

To receive support within the Home Care project, you need to contact the Kharkiv Regional Organization of the Ukrainian Red Cross. Applications can be submitted by individuals themselves, their relatives, or social services.
