General Information About the Program

The Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) program of the Kharkiv Regional Organization of the Ukrainian Red Cross is one of the key components of humanitarian assistance. It focuses on supporting people who have experienced stress, loss, shelling, evacuation, or other crisis events.

Psychosocial support combines work with a person’s emotional well-being and their social environment. This means that assistance is aimed not only at reducing anxiety and stress, but also at restoring a sense of safety, stability, trust in others, and confidence in one’s own abilities.

All program activities are implemented in accordance with international standards of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement and are based on the principles of humanity, confidentiality, and respect for individuals.

Program Objective

The main objective of the program is to support individuals, families, and communities in recovering from crisis events, help them cope with emotional challenges, and find internal resources for moving forward.

The program also focuses on developing the psychosocial support system in the region, raising public awareness about mental health, and promoting a culture of self-care and care for others.

Who the Support Is For

Psychosocial support is available to people facing difficult life circumstances due to war, shelling, or other crisis events. Assistance is provided to affected individuals, internally displaced persons, older adults, and people with disabilities.

Support is also available to families with children, families of military personnel and veterans, as well as volunteers and professionals working in challenging conditions. Services are accessible to all civilians, regardless of social status.

What Support Is Available

Within the program, people can receive different types of support depending on their needs.

This may include individual consultations, where a person can talk about their experiences in a safe and confidential environment, reduce anxiety, and find ways to cope with difficult situations.

Group sessions are also conducted, where participants can gain new knowledge about stress, emotions, psychological resilience, and self-help techniques. These meetings help people feel supported and understand that their experiences are normal in challenging circumstances.

Additionally, activities that include creative and physical elements are offered. They help relieve emotional tension, restore personal resources, and improve overall well-being.
